AWS Summit Series
Senior Engagement Producer & Digital Event Systems
Project Overview
The AWS Summit series is a global technology conference produced by Amazon Web Services, bringing together developers, engineers, partners, and enterprise clients for a full-day program of keynotes, breakout sessions, and exhibition experiences.
The events were delivered across multiple regions, including Sydney and Singapore, serving audiences ranging from 8,000 to 23,000 attendees.
The conferences combined large keynote environments, multi-track session programming, extensive partner exhibitions, and interactive engagement experiences designed to connect attendees with AWS products and partners.
My Role
My involvement in the AWS Summit series began through Jomablue, delivering the event’s digital engagement systems and registration infrastructure.
I later joined George P Johnson (GPJ) as Senior Engagement Producer, continuing to lead the design and delivery of attendee engagement systems while working directly within the event production team.
My role focused on ensuring that digital infrastructure, exhibition engagement, and attendee movement strategy worked together seamlessly across the large-scale conference environment.
This included designing gamified engagement experiences across the exhibition floor, managing attendee data capture strategies, and supporting large-scale people movement planning to guide thousands of attendees between keynote sessions, breakout rooms, the expo floor, and hospitality spaces.
As the COVID-19 situation developed in 2020, the project scope expanded to include contingency planning and the eventual pivot to a fully virtual event format, working with the digital production team to transition the summit experience online.
What I Delivered
Complex event registration infrastructure using Jomablue
Agenda and session navigation systems integrated with attendee mobile applications
Session check-in systems and attendance tracking
Exhibition engagement strategy, including gamification across sponsor activations
Crowd flow and attendee movement planning for large-scale conferences
Data capture frameworks supporting sponsor reporting and post-event insights
Custom entitlement systems for merchandise and attendee rewards
Digital engagement strategy supporting the transition to a virtual event format
Impact
The engagement systems implemented across the AWS Summit events supported conferences serving up to 23,000 attendees, enabling efficient attendee registration, session participation tracking, and measurable engagement across the exhibition floor.
The integration of gamification and digital engagement tools encouraged exploration of sponsor booths and content sessions while providing AWS and its partners with detailed insights into attendee behaviour and participation.
During the disruption of the 2020 event cycle, the engagement infrastructure and planning processes supported the transition from physical conference to virtual event delivery, ensuring the continuation of the summit experience for global audiences.
