The Cruelty Free Festival

Festival Production & Creative Programming

Project Overview

The Cruelty Free Festival (CFF) is a large-scale community event produced in partnership with Animal Liberation, bringing together ethical brands, food vendors, educational speakers, and cultural programming into a single-day festival celebrating cruelty-free living.

Over three years, the event grew into a vibrant hybrid of trade show, food festival, educational forum, and live entertainment program, attracting thousands of attendees and a large network of ethical exhibitors.

I joined the festival team as a producer supporting logistics and exhibitor coordination, later expanding my role to develop new creative activations and audience programming within the event.

My Role

While supporting the broader festival production, I identified an opportunity to create a live activation that could showcase participating brands while entertaining festival audiences.

I proposed a runway-style fashion show featuring clothing and products from Cruelty Free Festival exhibitors. The concept was approved and became a key feature of the festival programming.

Working within the constraints of a donation-funded event with a near-zero production budget, I led the development and delivery of the activation from concept through execution.

My responsibilities included:

  • Creative direction and styling for the runway show

  • Recruiting volunteer models, dressers, and MCs

  • Coordinating cruelty-free hair and makeup teams

  • Writing host scripts and show narration

  • Designing the soundtrack and lighting cues

  • Creating the full production run sheet and backstage flow

  • Coordinating with exhibitors to loan garments and products

What I Delivered

  • Full runway show concept and creative direction

  • Fashion styling and outfit coordination for participating brands

  • Show run sheet and backstage production plan

  • Host scripts and MC narration

  • Lighting and soundtrack design

  • Recruitment and coordination of a 30–40 person volunteer team

  • Coordination with exhibitors to source garments and products

Impact

The runway activation quickly became a highlight of the festival program, generating strong engagement from both exhibitors and attendees.

The success of the activation contributed to the expansion of festival programming, helping introduce new audience experiences, including an art auction, community speed-dating activation, and a full-day kids activity program.

The project demonstrated how creative programming and community collaboration can deliver high-impact experiences even within extremely limited production budgets.
